Sony Alpha NEX-F3 Camera and 18-55mm Lens : Top 10 Reasons Why I Need to Have One

Sony Alpha NEX-5N : Questioned

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Sabado, Disyembre 29, 2012 | 8:42 AM

Is the Sony Alpha NEX-5N considered as four thirds or micro four thirds? From what I've read, the NEX was said to have a bigger sensor. As for lenses, does the NEX have its own or can I use a different one? (eg, Nikkor and other lenses) and lastly, if its not included in the four thirds category,  what is its advantages over them?

1. APS-C sensor is the same as with DSLR but mirrorless
2. It has its own E-Mount lens. There's a Sony adapter to use Sony Alpha mount lens and there's auto-focus
3. There is also an adapter for legacy lens
4. It all depends on where you're going to use it.

I will just give a slight correction to number 1 and give some answers on number 4. That number 1 statement is a generalization. A DSLR does not necessarily sport an APS-C sensor. It may sport a Four-Thirds sensor or a Full-Frame sensor or a Medium Format sensor. The difference between a DSLR and a mirrorless is the mirror box sported by DSLR cameras whereas the mirrorless obviously does not sport a mirror box, the sensor does not matter in this case.

Sony Alpha 5N, 5R, or 6 from Sony

Review on the 5R?

Well it has a way better interface w/ the 5N, one button to access shooting mode, really fast AF that the 5N but the 6 is AF is still a bit faster, added dial control and FN button adds a BIG difference in control and accessibility of different camera functions. The 16-50mm PZ Lens is more awesome compare to the 18-55mm although I think I'm still gonna use the SEL50F18 more.

Ergonomics is still great and same w/ the 5N although I have to admit mas masarap sa kamay Nex 6 kasi di masyado crumpled kamay mo. IMO Nex 5R is a "Fun" camera, where the Nex 6 is more of a "Purist" camera.

Yaman? no, I actually planned to only keep one, di lang ako marunong siguro mag-appreciate ng Viewfinder kasi noob that why selling my Nex 6.

AF speed of the PZ1650 vs SEL35F18

Was able to do a side by side comparison to the AF speed of the PZ1650 vs SEL35F18.

(Note that the PZ1650 support Phase Detect AF while the SEL35F18 only works on Contrast Detect 'at the moment'. I have 2 Nex 5R both set at the same setting)

Test Condition:
-Test took place indoors in low light. Auto-ISO will set from 1600 to 3200.
-Random panning from a close subject, mid distant subject, to a far distant subject.
-I held the two Nex 5R. One on each hand, vertically. occasionally switching cameras from one hand to the other.

Sony NEX SEL50F18 Versus SEL35F18

We have the likes of SEL50F18 and the SEL35F18, which by all measures are and will be good enough, heck, better than enough. And they are affordable by a much larger majority of users.

Which one you would recommend SEL35F18 or SEL50F18?

Computer Assembly : Learning To Do It On Your Own

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Biyernes, Disyembre 28, 2012 | 10:47 AM

You can learn to assemble a PC on your own.

When building a rig, two things are absolutely important: the first is "budget"-- how much are you willing to spend; and the second is "purpose" -- what do you want and need to do on the computer that you're building.

As for choosing parts, it also boils down to those same two things. In other words,

1. What do you want/need to do with the computer?
2. How much can you spend for it?

You can either ask a friend to show you, or watch video tutorials online. Some motherboard manuals have instructions on installing components like the processor, heatsink, etc.

Make sure that the parts are compatible with each other: processor and motherboard must be of the same socket, RAM type must be correct, etc. Keep everything in their boxes and anti-static bags until you're ready to build.

Sencha Demonstrates HTML 5 Can Be Faster Than Native iOS or Android Apps

You've heard that Facebook switched from HTML 5 to "native" apps on iOS and Android recently to "speed them up." That pissed off the developers from Sencha http://www.sencha.com/

So they built a Facebook app completely in HTML 5 that's even faster than the native Android and iOS apps that Facebook released.

Sencha builds HTML 5 programming tools and the video discuss the market for app developers and the choices they have to make.

I've high hopes for HTML 5! A little caveat though - this is a promo for Sencha. But still...

If they can make an HTML 5 web app that is/can be faster than native apps, then why can't we? Practice time!

Asus Vivobook X202E Windows 8 Touchscreen PC Review

A review from a user who just recently purchased an Asus Vivobook X202E.

Initial Impressions:

1. Very responsive touchscreen, no lags, no missed touches.
2. Viewing angle is bad. You need to be looking straight on the screen.
3. Touch pad not so good. Too sensitive Asus smart gesture. I would always accidentally activate the charms bar at the right using the regular scrolling on the touch pad.
4. Start up and shutdown, a bit slow. I think an SSD drive would have been better.
5. Windows 8 is really cool. Downloaded Start8 for the start menu. What's good about this is that it has multilanguage support.

Overall, solid feel, nice brushed metal texture.

Startups Versus the Juggernauts

Should entrepreneurs just give up on their app ideas, simply because Facebook could eventually clone them and crush them with a billion users? Of course not, and anybody who thinks that Facebook (or any other big company) cloning a startup's product spells Armageddon for that startup doesn't know what they're talking about.

Remember when Facebook tried to make a Foursquare competitor? How about the time it tried to make a Groupon competitor, and it went nowhere? The same is true of its Quora competitor (Facebook Questions) and even its Craigslist competitor (Facebook Marketplace).

I could go on and on, but the point is clear: a big company launching a clone can be scary, but it doesn't mean Armageddon. There are two other factors to consider: defensibility and vision.

The "K" Conundrum

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Martes, Disyembre 25, 2012 | 11:49 PM

Have you ever wondered how an SMS gets sent? Watch as Bianca Gonzales, popular TV host (plus one of the most influential social media personality), traces the path of that "K" you just sent.

We're going to get a little bit technical to help you understand a very valid point.

I would like to share with you a great and very interesting educational video from Globe called The “K” Conundrum. It explains how tedious it is for an SMS or text message to travel and reach another mobile device. We believe that sharing the video will definitely help us understand how it works.

PowerColor HD7950 3GB GDDR5 (V2)

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Lunes, Disyembre 24, 2012 | 11:15 PM

If you're planning to get the PowerColor HD7950 3GB GDDR5 (V2) with dual fan, make sure that your power supply has a 8-pin PCI-Express connector.

In the Powercolor website it says the card has two 6-Pin PCI-Express Power Connectors. However when I opened the box the card is actually using x1 6-Pin and x1 8-Pin connector. So it is using the same power connectors as the PowerColor HD7970 cards.

I'm guessing this is because the new version of the card has a higher power draw than the previous version. Maybe for better overclocking or because of new BIOS / firmware the card is using? Anyway just make sure your PSU has the necessary PCI-Express connector.

Club 3D HD 7870 jokerCard Tahiti LE 2 GB Review

AMD's new GPU is called "Tahiti LE" even though it's a part of the Radeon HD 7800 series, because it is derived from the same 3.5 billion-transistor "Tahiti" silicon that goes into making all Radeon HD 7900 series products and not the "Pitcairn" silicon that goes into making the HD 7870 GHz Edition and HD 7850. The new SKU drops the "GHz Edition" moniker by featuring lower clock speeds than the HD 7870 GHz Edition, but it makes up for that with more pixel-crunching muscle.

Club 3D Radeon HD 7870 jokerCard (Tahiti LE)
Tech Power Up

Powercolor HD 7870 Vertex II VS Powercolor HD 7870 Myst Edition

Which is better Powercolor HD7870 Vertex II with higher engine clock rate because its OC already or the new Powercolor HD 7870 Myst Edition with lower engine clock speed but higher memory clock speed and UEFI ready?

I believe the Myst Edition is better. It is based on Radeon 7950/7970 GPU (Tahiti LE) so it has more shaders and has PowerTune with Boost (975 MHz). The memory is faster as well at 1.5GHz (6GHz effective). Based on reviews, when overclocked the card reaches 1.2GHz core speed and 1.6GHz memory speed.

Unique Melody Mage Cabled with Whiplash TWag v2 OM

How does the Mage sound? Also, how does the TWag change the sonic characteristics of the Mage? I've always resisted the temptation to buy an aftermarket cable, but arguably at the price level of these customs the owners already gunning for the maximum sound quality possible.

I've always thought about the Mage as something like the custom version of the UM3x with forward mids. Too bad UM Phil didn't have a demo version so I could hear the general sonic signature ("general" because the demos sound quite inferior to the real deal).

The Mage is not mostly tuned for forward mids but it is more tuned for a brighter sound signature. When I say brighter sound signature, the highs are more accentuated throughout the spectrum but doesn't drown the other notes for the mids and lows, in addition there is no sibilance, 0%. The main strengths of the Mage are Exceptional acoustics and vocal reproduction, lively sound (doesn't have that dark sound sig CIEM/IEM), fast and high quality bass (Best bass quality I've heard so far), imaging is excellent, soundstage is really wide but not that tall (more of landscape type or widescreen).

Ortofon e-Q7 and EarSonics SM3 v2 Comparison

Shown above are the Ortofon e-Q7 (red one), EarSonics SM3 v2 and an 8gb Cowon J3. A simple, but definitely not lacking in power, portable system.

They quite share some interesting characteristics. Both have excellent midrange and treble response only differs in presentation.

The e-Q7 is the first IEM I've had and I must say that it change my view of how IEMs performs. Midrange is prominent but not as enveloping like the SM3. It's punchy and very detailed without sounding analytical (as opposed to the SM3) all nuances is presented cleanly and cohesively with a lot of musicality. Musicality and accuracy is how I describe e-Q7's mids. Treble on the other hand is as good as well. It's always sparkling and very snappy without exhibiting sibilance.

Nexus 7 : Turning It into a Multitasking Muscle-Machine

We can force the Nexus 7 to use its GPU to render 2d graphics. Nasa Developer Options-->Force GPU Render. Improves 2d scores by more than 400% (from 233 to 1000).

So I went back to <click here for link> to follow the directions from <click here for link> claiming to improve UI responsiveness. The change was noticeable especially while browsing with Opera Mobile with other things open.

Then I decided to run quadrant for S and G's.

Astronomical Telescopes : Guidelines in Buying

I agree that it is costly to buy pro-level astronomical scopes like Takahashi, APO, etc. But for the beginners, don't despair, there's a lot of entry level scopes (3"-4"). Just don't buy the "toy" scopes.

Some guidelines:

- Decide on what you want to see. There is rarely a scope that does it all. Decide whether you're interested in deep space objects (DSO - like nebulas, galaxies, clusters) or lunar and planetary.

- If you choose DSO, you need the best aperture you can afford/ carry and medium to low power only (20x-100x). If planetary, small apertures will do but you need high powers (100x-200x rarely this high) plus a very stable mount.

- Don't believe the "power" hype, like the 600x etc. Actually its not the power or magnification that's important, its the "Aperture" because for astro DSO use, the objects are faint and NOT small so you need to gather more light. Astro Telescope- definition: an instrument that gathers light.

Ainol Novo 10 Hero : Best Ainol Tablet ... So Far

Ainol Novo10 Hero so far is the best release of Ainol... As in 0 known bugs and issues...

Very recommended... Although there's some sacrifice in specs if we compare it to Ainol Novo7 Flame...

#1 Stripped down Cameras.. 0.3MP Front / 2.0MP Rear without FLASH
#2. No more Light Sensor.
#3. No more build sturdiness. Leather-Case is a MUST.

But overall build quality is very impressive..

Sony RX100 : Best Pocketable Camera

Branded as the best "pocketable" compact camera today.  Go with the RX100 if you will not expand your lens lineup. For the same price as an RX100, what do you think is the closest alternative? LX7? GX1?

Obviously the NEX series and the E-PM2/E-PL5 plus the Lumix GX1 but these are interchangeable lens cameras. I think the advantage of these cameras being interchangeable lens will go to waste if the user will not expand the lens lineup, plus the kit will be bigger than the RX100.

Another competitor that is a non-interchangeable lens camera is the Canon G1X (not to be confused with the Lumix GX1) which sports a bigger sensor than the RX100. But the Canon G1X is not known for its quick AF speed.

The LX7 is a different camera, much cheaper than the RX100, but also a smaller sensor. It has a 24mm eq. lens at the wide end compared to the 28mm wide end of the RX100 and a faster aperture lens @ f/1.4-2.3 to somewhat lessen the IQ disadvantage of the smaller sensor.

Between the RX100 and LX7. If you are to buy now with IQ and low-light as the deciding factor. Which one would you get?

RX100.

iPad Mini : Target Market for this latest Apple "Innovation"?

The intended market for the iPad Mini are those who needs medium size portable internet device in between the size of Ipad 2/3 and iPod Touch/iPhone. This is for those that are not after the innovation as their primary target. I for one will definitely buy this because all of my mobile phones are all in android platform. I am also using an HTC Flyer tablet and an iPad 2.

At first I wanted to replace my HTC Flyer with a Samsung Tab 7.7 because its bigger and thinner but I thought it only differed in size and the platform is the same Android. Second thing, my iPod Touch 4G is too small for Internet surfing but portability wise and ideal for music listening.

As their Facebook page says: Novo7 Tech is a premiere retailer of high quality consumer electronic devices. Keeping innovations within reach!

....and yes indeed! It did allowed me to get a chance to experience using a tablet PC when the branded counterparts were way too expensive.

This is where I got my Onda Valkeyrie V712 tablet PC of which I am very satisfied with regards to the looks, features and performance. I never encountered any problems so far. It was very dependable and suitable for my basic needs of surfing the web, checking my e-mails and Facebook timeline, plus the added photo and video capturing capability - and immediate upload via an Internet wi-fi connection when available.

Philips Construct Headphones: Sound Tripping In Dumaguete

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Huwebes, Disyembre 20, 2012 | 8:09 PM

I'm so excited about this headphone review because I spent a great number of days with it including two extra days (aside from the two original tour days - which makes it a whopping four days!) stranded in the city of Dumaguete in the province of Negros Oriental!

Flights were all cancelled, even our ferry trip to Bohol to visit another resort was no longer in the agenda because of the Typhoon Pablo that struck these areas of the Philippines. It was a good thing I had a headphone to soothe me through the nights even during the height of Typhoon Pablo. It was four days of sound tripping in the city of Dumaguete!

Huawei Launches New Line of Android Mobile Phones

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Linggo, Disyembre 16, 2012 | 6:00 PM

Hey, I just came from the Huawei Technologies event last Sunday, December 16, at the SM North EDSA Cyberzone at SM Annex and we had a wonderful time learning about the new mobile phone offerings of Huawei Philippines.

Famous Yugatech blogger and Nuffnang Philippines Country Manager Abe Olandres was there to give his insights of the new line of products and his guess price of the units.

Lots of winners from the raffle where miraculously, or by luck of all luck, there was one family whose members all won something (jacket, discount coupons, Android lamps) from the raffle including one of the Huawei mobile phones.

Amazing indeed, as amazing as the new Huawei phone models to be available soon!

Chatted with the Marketing Manager and he said they also have plans to put up a concept store soon probably by next year.

HP Lanches BYOD For Today's Technology Driven Society

With the proliferation of so many technologies available to an individual nowadays, this reality is having a sweeping impact on the way we live, work and enjoy life. Aside from a desktop PC, you probably also have a laptop, a smartphone, a digital camera and a tablet or "phablet" - phone tablet - PC. I very much believe I am not alone when I say so many of us have multiple mobile devices we use in our daily routine. We simply have a communication or automation gadget or device that we do not fail to use on a single passing day.

It would be nice if I can access all that I want from my own personal device. In this day and age, the line between personal time and professional time is already very blurry. You could also say that is already a fine line separating the two. The traditional 8-to-5 working days are long gone. However, I still prefer not to lug around multiple devices. I want one device with easy access to all my contacts. I want to be able to access my information from my office cubicle or from the basketball court over the cellular network. Though some admit that they purposely limit the capabilities of a device, it is done basically to cut down on cost. However, the quality and multi-functionality of a device is sacrificed. So unless a valiant technopreneur decides to give it all out for the consumers advantage, we might still have to lug with a lot of devices.

Regardless of this situation, employees, customers and partners agree it’s time to bring your own device—BYOD.

Lenovo Premieres the IdeaPad Yoga and ThinkPad Twist Designed for Windows 8

Coming directly from the airport from our trip to Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, I made the right decision on attending the Lenovo launch of its newest Ultrabook, ThinkPad and IdeaPad releases. This was held at the Balcony restaurant in Legazpi Village Makati City.

Attended by mostly tech-oriented writers and bloggers, the event organizers wanted to have the guests wearing a superhero identity, but only one came in a military attire who was even carrying a toy armalite. ....and oh, there was another one wearing an Ironman mask. So eventually the price of 5k worth of Gift Checks went to the only guy who came in a hero attire.
