Why 3LCD Projection Delivers Superior Brightness And Color Performance

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Miyerkules, Hulyo 22, 2015 | 1:21 AM

Epson projectors use a 3LCD projection engine to deliver bright, clear images that are rich in detail and color. Here’s why 3LCD is superior to 1-chip projector technology:

Accurate color with no ‘rainbow effect’ can be seen in the image above.

1-chip projectors use a rotating color wheel that spins at a rapid speed, only displaying colors one at a time sequentially. A viewer’s visual system combines the series of colored images into a full-colored picture. With this, viewers will sometimes see an artefact known as the “rainbow effect”.

The rainbow effect is most noticeable with fast moving video, especially bright objects on dark backgrounds. It is also apparent when moving your eyes from side to side, such as when reading text.

The image below is an example of the rainbow effect that was captured by a moving camera while the shutter was open. This is equivalent to what you will see when your eyes move quickly across the screen.
Epson’s 3LCD technology avoids this visual artefact by using mirrors to separate white light from the projector lamp into red, green and blue light. Each of the three light colors is then passed through a LCD panel and recombined using a prism before being projected onto the screen.

The result: accurate color that’s easier on the eyes.

Epson Joins the Mopria Alliance

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Lunes, Marso 3, 2014 | 5:33 PM

Epson announced it has joined the Mopria™ Alliance, a global non-profit membership organization working to promote the expansion of mobile printing. The Alliance was formed to bring together the mobile, software, and print industries with the goal of aligning standards that ensure printing is universally compatible from any mobile device to any printer, anywhere.

"The Mopria Alliance is dedicated to advancing mobile printing to allow busy people on-the-go to conveniently print wherever or whenever, regardless of brand or operating system," said Ian Cameron, responsible for global communications at Epson. "Epson is committed to making printing as easy as possible for its customers, and is honored to collaborate with like-minded organizations to improve how we meet and anticipate customer needs in today's increasing mobile culture."

With an estimated 50 billion connected devices by 2020, the Mopria Alliance is focused on making wireless printing from smartphones, tablets, and other devices simple and standardized. Primary focus areas for the Alliance include:

  • Breaking down barriers between brands by eliminating the need for users to download multiple print solutions (print drivers)
  • Creating a better, easier and more accessible user experience for mobile printing
  • Using Mopria as a way to educate consumers and businesses on the ease-of-use of mobile printing
  • Influencing the development and adoption of standards for mobile printing
  • Providing an open environment and tools for application developers to incorporate print into mobile applications

In addition, the just announced Mopria plug-in for KitKat complements the core print feature in Android OS 4.4 enabling printing from Android-based mobile devices to many brands of printers. Epson will be working to offer support for the Mopria plug-in and other Mopria standards.

Epson’s Moverio To Be Used To Test Opera Subtitle Delivery System

Seiko Epson Corporation (SEC) is partnering with the Japanese New National Theatre Foundation (NNTF), Information Services International - Dentsu, Ltd., and Zimaku+ Inc. to test an opera subtitle delivery system. The system will be tested from February 28 to March 2 during performances by the New National Theatre Opera Studio in Japan. Selected guests will be able to follow the performances with subtitles projected onto the see-through lenses of Epson's new Moverio BT-200 smartglasses.

Operas are commonly sung in Italian or German, so opera houses often install large LED displays in front of the stage wings to provide subtitles during performances. The problem with these systems, however, is that operagoers have a hard time immersing themselves in the performance because they are constantly taking their eyes off the stage to read the subtitles.

Epson and its partners have created and will test the practical potential of a more convenient subtitle system that they hope solves this problem. The new system takes advantage of the ability of the Epson Moverio BT-200, which can be worn like an ordinary pair of glasses, to display subtitles seemingly in the air while guests watch the action on the stage. Moverio BT-200 smartglasses will be loaned to selected guests who want a more natural opera viewing experience with line-of-sight subtitles.

The roles of the four parties in the demonstration are as follows:

Epson
Epson will provide Moverio BT-200 smartglasses.

New National Theatre, Tokyo (NNTT)
The NNTT Opera Studio will present a production of Ariadne auf Naxos for three days, from February 28 to March 2.

Information Services International - Dentsu (ISID)
ISID will provide "potaVee," an area-limited, Wi-Fi multicasting platform that delivers subtitles that are synchronized with the opera. ISID also created a subtitle app for the Moverio BT-200.

Zimaku+
Zimaku+ will produce the subtitles for the opera, provide and run the server used to deliver the subtitles, and manage the test during the sessions.

Epson believes that the Moverio's binocular, transparent display and hands-free navigation give it the potential to transform the way people experience and interact with the world around them. The Moverio technology platform can serve as a foundation for the development of new visual tools in a wide variety of consumer and commercial fields.

Epson Moverio BT-200 Smart Glasses
Sporting a sleek, light design, the Epson Moverio BT-200 smartglasses offer users the ability to enjoy crystal clear video entertainment, games, music, and web content anytime and anywhere. With transparent lenses and motion tracking sensors that make navigation hands-free, the Moverio projects see-through overlays of digital content onto the real world so that users can enjoy a compelling augmented reality experience while still being able to see their surroundings. The ways in which smart-glasses can be used and enjoyed is rapidly expanding with the development of an increasingly diverse range of applications.

Epson Compact AIO A3 Printer Recognized In Japanese 2013 Good Design Awards

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Martes, Oktubre 29, 2013 | 7:42 AM

Seiko Epson Corporation recently announced that its EP-976A3 all-in-one inkjet printer (sold in global markets as the XP-950) has been selected for a Japanese 2013 Good Design Award. These awards recognize designs that enrich life and society as a whole.

The EP-976A3 is designed for people who want a high-performance printer that can print out A3 sheets yet can be installed in the same space as an A4 all-in-one. Featuring a footprint more typical of an ordinary A4 printer, this all-in-one produces crisp A3 photos and documents with gorgeous detail. The clean, simple, compact design of the body also provides far greater freedom of installation.

Judges' comments

"When a user prints over WiFi, the output tray, which automatically extends, and the control panel, which automatically tilts upward, make perfect sense when design is considered from a behavioral standpoint. The user interface is similarly designed with affordance*, suggesting the next action to perform on the touch panel. In addition, the minimalist design is beautiful, a result of Epson's efforts to provide A3 output from a printer with A4 compactness. The flow of operations is designed for true ease of use, with affordances that suggest the next selection. "

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Martes, Hunyo 25, 2013 | 7:06 AM

Seiko Epson Corporation announced that it has invested approximately about 16 billion yen in two production lines in Japan.

These new lines will be located in Epson’s Suwa-Minami Plant in Nagano Prefecture and the Sakata Plant in Yamagata Prefecture. Production demands a high level of technical skill, and Epson was required to bring to bear its many years of accumulated expertise in monozukuri – the art and science of manufacturing – to make the production lines a reality.

Epson Showcases Environmentally-Sound Manufacturing Processes At Newly-Expanded Manufacturing Plant

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Biyernes, Marso 8, 2013 | 4:41 PM

I have always been fascinated of seeing how things were made so it was a real treat to be able to join a plant tour where we were shown how printers and projectors were being made. Part were assembled, tested and packaged - all ready to be sent to the requesting parties. It was an experience worth sharing with you guys.

Too bad we were not allowed to take photos at the assembly area itself. Seeing how a particular item goes through the process of assembly, quality testing and monitoring, packaging, etc., is somewhat magical because you even get to see the inner workings of the product and what goes behind the assembly line.

Epson Precision (Philippines), Incorporated (EPPI), the manufacturing arm of Epson in the Philippines, conducted a special plant tour for media guests in its newly-expanded plant located at the Lima Technology Center in Lipa City, Batangas last March 5.
