Wazzup Pilipinas!?
PASAY CITY, Philippines — On a single, synchronized day in April 2026, the traditional concept of the Filipino mall was dismantled and rebuilt into something breathtakingly alive. SM Supermalls, the nation’s retail titan, transformed its sprawling network into the largest playground in the country to celebrate the first anniversary of SM Active Hub.
From the first light of dawn to the final glow of sunset, 24 malls nationwide became a single, high-energy stage for a movement that reached every corner of the archipelago.
One Day, Every Mall, One Movement
What began a year ago as a vision to redefine the mall experience—shifting from places of mere consumption to spaces of connection and movement—scaled into a national phenomenon. On April 11, the "One Day, Every Mall, One Movement" activation saw communities converge for a coordinated explosion of energy.
While the heart of the celebration beat strongest at SM Mall of Asia and SM North EDSA, the momentum was felt everywhere:
SM City Clark became a powerhouse of family energy and connection.
SM City La Union felt the heat of competitive beach volleyball.
SM City Bicutan saw the next generation take over during high-stakes Push Bike competitions.
SM City Lipa and SM City Laoag showcased the precision of basketball and the rising skills of future football stars.
The Pillars of Play: Running and Pickleball
The anniversary solidified two sports as the backbone of the SM Active Hub ecosystem. Running has evolved from a solo endeavor into a massive social force; in 2026 alone, SM activated 24 malls with dedicated paths, supported by 45 clubs and 55 major events. This includes the prestigious EDSA Marathon on Independence Day, led by partner Runrio.
Meanwhile, Pickleball—one of the fastest-growing sports in the Philippines—found its permanent home within the Hub. With 12 permanent and 13 semi-permanent courts, the anniversary featured the Toby’s Pickleball Superseries and an international multi-mall tour by Canadian National Champion and PPA Tour athlete Mackonner Dy.
A Shared Experience for Every Filipino
The "Free Play, Full Fun" weekend removed all barriers to entry, inviting families, "barkadas," and walk-in mallgoers to participate in everything from ice hockey and figure skating to Zumba, karatedo, and chess.
“This is movement at scale,” said Joaquin San Agustin, Executive Vice President for Marketing at SM Supermalls. “We design spaces where communities gather, stay active, and experience life to the max.”
Digital Synergy and the Road Ahead
The revolution isn't just physical. Through the SM Malls Online app, the Active Hub has become an on-demand journey where users can register for activities, track event schedules, and unlock rewards instantly.
As the anniversary celebrations transition into a summer full of sports clinics, community tournaments, and the Groove Dance Showdown, SM Active Hub has proven that the modern mall is no longer just a destination—it is a heartbeat. For Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and every Filipino in between, the message is clear: We are here to move.
