Introducing the New Yahoo Mail App, Multiple Mailbox Management and Password-free Sign-in

Most people have an email account from more than one provider. So starting today, Yahoo Mail users can connect and manage their email accounts from Outlook.com, Hotmail and AOL Mail, right from Yahoo Mail on mobile and desktop. Once connected, users can access Yahoo Mail’s features across all their mailboxes. (The ability to manage multiple mailboxes is rolling out globally today in the Yahoo Mail app. The desktop experience is currently available for U.S. English users, and will be coming soon to users outside of the U.S.)

“Email is the most prevalent way people communicate online. However, what we want from our inbox is evolving. Mobile use requires a faster and smarter inbox,” said Jeff Bonforte, Senior Vice President of Communication Products at Yahoo. “Both of these needs are at the center of our new app.”

In addition to speed, smarts and support for multiple mailboxes, the new app marks the introduction of Yahoo Account Key – a more secure and simple future alternative to the old password. This new feature simplifies the sign-in process with a secure and easy-to-use interface to access a Yahoo account with the tap of a button.

Why 3LCD Projection Delivers Superior Brightness And Color Performance

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Miyerkules, Hulyo 22, 2015 | 1:21 AM

Epson projectors use a 3LCD projection engine to deliver bright, clear images that are rich in detail and color. Here’s why 3LCD is superior to 1-chip projector technology:

Accurate color with no ‘rainbow effect’ can be seen in the image above.

1-chip projectors use a rotating color wheel that spins at a rapid speed, only displaying colors one at a time sequentially. A viewer’s visual system combines the series of colored images into a full-colored picture. With this, viewers will sometimes see an artefact known as the “rainbow effect”.

The rainbow effect is most noticeable with fast moving video, especially bright objects on dark backgrounds. It is also apparent when moving your eyes from side to side, such as when reading text.

The image below is an example of the rainbow effect that was captured by a moving camera while the shutter was open. This is equivalent to what you will see when your eyes move quickly across the screen.
Epson’s 3LCD technology avoids this visual artefact by using mirrors to separate white light from the projector lamp into red, green and blue light. Each of the three light colors is then passed through a LCD panel and recombined using a prism before being projected onto the screen.

The result: accurate color that’s easier on the eyes.

Angara on DICT Bill: Is The DOST-ICTO Not Enough for All ICT Initiatives?

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Linggo, Hunyo 28, 2015 | 2:59 PM

Senator Juan Edgardo Angara at the 2nd day of the National ICT Summit 2015 held at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila from June 23 to 24.

The senator made the keynote speech for the 2nd day and tackled the DICT Bill which proposes to setup a dedicated department in the government to manage ICT requirements in the country.

"Nakakatawa" to again mention how poor our Internet speed ("mabagal at di mapagkatiwalaan na Internet service sa bansa") and stating that we are placed at the 176th position out of 202 countries according to the Ookla household download index. "Hindi po natin pwedeng ipagmalaki 'to" according to Angara. Pati na rin ang pagiging 19th place of the Philippines for viewing the most Internet porn.

"Nakakatuwa" that even the issue about the Valkyrie dance club regarding its antiquated "No Crossdressing Policy" was also mentioned to stress how viral issues similar to it are more prominent online.

"Hell hath no fury like a person whose gender identity has been scorned and whose Twitter account has many followers."

True enough, the Filipinos are more popular backing up online sports figures like Manny Pacquiao or celebrities like the KathNiel love tandem. They tweet, post, share, and do everything on social media until they favorite personalities goes viral or trending.

I wish we could be as passionate for more urgent and critical concerns and issues of the country.

Cloud Access: Too Slow in the Philippines?

This Reynaldo Lugtu Jr, VP of IT Enabled Services Group of Globe Telecom, was laughingstock earlier at the NICT Summit 2015.

He was boasting that their cloud service passed industry standards after some testing. But when a guy from UP asked him if they have documentations of the testing, he said they don't have any, but he is willing to discuss it off the stage.

The guy from UP said something like this: That's the problem with you telcos, you are not transparent to the public, it would be better if you will publicly disclose the findings so everyone will benefit.
The questioning stopped and they resumed with a raffle instead where Globe Telecom gave away some electronic weighing scales and smartphones.

This happened after an earlier concern that the local cloud provider has speed or latency problems thus users are worried that access to data in the cloud may be too slow. Some are contemplating on using out-of-country cloud service for reliability. But this guy from Globe Telecom insisted that their testing has revealed that their cloud service passed industry standards. However, it is baffling that they couldn't show any documentations on this claim.

Which standard is he referring to?

Our broadband in the Philippines couldn't even pass global standards (this is why we have one of the slowest Internet connectivity as compared with most countries), what more their cloud service.

Net Neutrality: Does It Still Exist in the Digital Market

PLDT Alpha Enterprise's Head of Corporate Business Solutions, Mr. Benedict Patrick Alcoseba, was questioned about how SafeZone is very much anti-net neutrality.

PLDT's SafeZone gives preference to big companies who can afford the service. How about small to medium enterprises who don't have the money to join SafeZone?

We must understand that telcos should just provide the "pipe" without any preference to any type of content, or company, for that matter. PLDT is using its market power to benefit only a few and blatantly disregards how openness the Internet should be. If you don't have the dough to pay the necessary cost of shouldering the expense incurred by your customers on the PLDT pipeline, then the customers might just make use of the competitors services.

We also cannot use SafeZone if we are not using a PLDT, Smart or Sun line because it is limited only to their subscribers.

As a telco company, what has PLDT really have done to encourage utilization of services over the Internet? There's 46K public schools out there but only 17% are accessible via Internet.

What is PLDT doing to address the lack of broadband infrastructure, and with regards to the Internet speed that is not at par with our neighbors?

Wazzup Pilipinas TV: Definitely the First to Make it on National TV

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Biyernes, Abril 17, 2015 | 9:15 AM

We knew online publications will make it to the top of media promotions and establishing presence but the speedy soaring of a certain blog site is truly phenomenal that many are baffled on how exactly the founder does it.
There's no magic trick here but only pure passion to excel and stand out among the rest. There is also the honest and sincere appreciation of collaborating with potential partners who will continue to bring forth fame and prestige to the once blog and now also a TV show.
WazzupPilipinas.com is proud to announce that they now have a new TV show dubbed as Wazzup Pilipinas TV and it will soon be shown at IBC 13 every primetime Saturday from 8 to 9 in the evening. It is a variety infotainment lifestyle show that will be more than just an online version of the WazzupPilipinas.com blog. We believe this is the first time a blog has made it into national TV making it the first of its kind to achieve an outstanding achievement.
The creation of the TV version is truly a proud moment for its founder, Ross Del Rosario, more popularly known as the Pambansang Blogger ng Pilipinas. Ross joins a formidable team composed of Bart Abaya, the Philippine Barter King; Dave Aguila, the Common Sense Investor; Chef Tato, Halal Cooking Master, and quite a number of guest co-hosts appearing all throughout the show.

DIG.PH: BIG Digital Ideas for SMALL to MEDIUM Businesses

In a recent poll conducted in the Philippines, responses overwhelmingly pointed towards the desire of small to medium business owners to adopt smarter and more affordable marketing strategies to grow sales and customer engagement.

For a typical Filipino SME owner, marketing is still a challenge. The budget is limited and traditional media (TV, print, radio) isn’t targeted enough. Digital marketing is the most compelling channel to engage customers, but many business owners don’t know where to start and how to maximize the returns on their investment.

The average Filipino customer, on the other hand, is amongst the most digitally savvy in the world. He/she expects to find their favorite businesses online, to connect with them on social media, and to make purchases directly online.

Disini Tech Legal Forum on Bitcoins Data Privacy Cybercrime & E-Business

Recent events have again demonstrated that as technology rushes into the future, the law will lag behind and leave uncertainty in places where opportunities can be found. Recognizing the outlines of that uncertain landscape is helpful in providing us with the ability to assess risks and guide us in navigating through uncharted paths.

On its 15th year, the Legal Forum series of the Disini & Disini Law Office continues to examine legal gaps in Philippine laws to provide counsel and advice to those who wish to venture into new fields. We believe the challenges for the present (and near future) involve Cybercrime, E-Business regulations and Bitcoins.

Cybercrime creates a toll on economic activity and drags beneficial technologies into darker realms. Recent regulatory changes and developments also complicate the environment for online, mobile and other e-businesses. Moreover, the emergence of Bitcoin may prove to be a major development in economic and social relations as it has the potential to disrupt not only the area of currency but other activities where the technology is applied. Join us at the Disini Tech Legal Forum as we explore these and other issues confronting businesses today.

Dell SuperMassive 9800 Next-Generation Firewall to Bring Powerful Enterprise-Level Security to Organizations of All Sizes

Written By Wazzup Pilipinas on Miyerkules, Enero 21, 2015 | 4:41 PM

Dell is announcing the release of the Dell SuperMassive 9800 Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) and complementary management and reporting Global Management System (GMS) 8.0. The most powerful model in Dell’s SuperMassive 9000 Series, SuperMassive 9800 provides the highest-performance deep-packet inspection firewall available, allowing customers to benefit from reduced capital expenditure and reduced rack, power and cooling costs in the future. The new GMS solution offers enhanced value to both customers and partners, by making NGFW management simple and efficient, helping to ease resource consumption, reduce overall risk and adhere to compliance requirements with a new workflow automation feature.

The largest enterprises are no longer the biggest targets for malicious activity, which has forced organizations of all sizes—including government and educational institutions—to prioritize building a continual defense of their networks from a growing list of threats from new technology, new devices and new ways users work. Mid-sized organizations are finding themselves next up on hackers’ hit lists. Too often, their security strategies have employed outdated firewalls, web-filtering proxies, and intrusion prevention systems that lack the necessary context-aware, connected intelligence required to blunt today’s more advanced attacks.

According to Gartner, “Security has been a top priority (and challenge) for most midsize enterprises for the past three years. IT leaders are being forced to secure more new IT solutions with flat IT budgets.” 1

Staying ahead of the changing threat landscape requires data centers that are agile, scalable, manageable, cost-effective, and, most importantly, secure. To meet today’s massive data and capacity demands, the network security layer must be highly extensible to support the largest of data center bandwidth consumptions, with zero downtime.

Dell SuperMassive 9800 addresses the most complex and demanding data center operations, all at the lowest TCO

As the most powerful model in Dell’s SuperMassive 9000 Series, the SuperMassive 9800 delivers to both mid-size and enterprise organizations the same protection and performance as Dell’s flagship SuperMassive 10000 Series firewalls. It includes all the performance-enhancing capabilities, with lower operating expenses and total cost of ownership. Key benefits of SuperMassive 9800 include:

Up to 20 Gbps of DPI performance to solve complex and demanding data centers’ increasingly massive data and capacity requirements. Provides ultra-fast parallel inspection processing for scalability to higher throughput and connectivity Best-in-class security with 97.9 percent security effectiveness without compromising performance.

Patented Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection® (RFDPI) single-pass threat prevention engine searches more levels of data, every element of every packet, to identify threats while operating on a scalable foundation that grows with organizational needs

Reduced deployment and management costs with an integrated NGFW, IPS, SSL inspection and application control platform for mid-market and enterprise organizations that require the deepest level of network security Industry-leading price-performance ratio, reducing power, cooling and space costs with power optimization design that produces optimal compute performance per Watt (Gbps\W) packed in a space-saving two-rack unit appliance

Support for up to millions of simultaneous connections at near-zero latency for higher throughput, concurrent/ simultaneous

TCP connections and connection per second to respond to increased user count, user device count (BYOD and IoT) and demand for network connection New enterprise-level capabilities and resiliency including support for IPv6, A/A clustering, SNMPv3 and Advanced Switching to organizations that previously found the cost of entry for these advanced capabilities too expensive

Comprehensive set of sophisticated capabilities for organizations of all sizes when coupled with Dell’s SonicOS 6.2 fully integrated operating system.

GMS 8.0 simplifies management of network security

GMS 8.0 complements the SuperMassive 9800 and other Dell NGFWs by enabling organizations to easily consolidate the management of security appliances, reduce administrative and troubleshooting complexities, and govern all operational aspects of the security infrastructure – including centralized policy management and enforcement, real-time event monitoring, analytics, and reporting. GMS 8.0 also meets the firewall change-management requirements of enterprises through a new workflow automation feature that assures the correctness and compliance of policy changes by enforcing a rigorous process for configuring, comparing, validating, reviewing, and approving policies prior to deployment. Auditing and reporting of policy changes assure that the firewall meets compliance regulations. Management of network security is improved by dramatically simplify the lifecycle management of overall security environments, rather than managing on a device-by-device basis.

Availability:

· Dell SuperMassive 9800 will be available worldwide (except Brazil)
· GMS 8.0 will be available worldwide in early 2015
· Dell Software solutions are available through the channel

Quotes:

Patrick Sweeney, executive director, Dell Security

“The recent disclosures of the ShellShock and HeartBleed industry-wide vulnerabilities demonstrate that organizations are literally a few well-formed packets away from infrastructure disaster, proving the need for instant and automated security scaled to meet the needs of the network. The SuperMassive 9800 provides that level of instant security on a flexible, feature-rich platform. Our SuperMassive 9000 series has helped enterprise organizations realize tremendous benefit in terms of reduced risk and increased competitive advantage through enhanced productivity, and, now, mid-sized companies can deploy the enterprise-level security solutions they need to grow with their business, at the low OPEX and TCO they require. The feature set of the SuperMassive 9800 provides the unique opportunity to leverage the security solution as a competitive advantage, boosting productivity with the assurance that their data is secure.”

Robert Keng, Director, Operations, Comcast

“The rapid evolution of technology and consumption across devices accelerated the need for a next-gen firewall that would increase our protection and productivity simultaneously. Our SuperMassive 9000 series next-generation firewall (NGFW) keeps us secure and increases the value of right-sized security solutions that uniquely address the needs of each organization.”

Russ Trainor, vice president of technology, Denver Broncos

“We’re impressed with our Dell SonicWALL firewalls, and I sleep better at night having our SuperMassive 9000 Series protecting our network.”

Frank Zappolo, VP Sales, CSDnet

“The mid-size organizations we work with are realizing they are the newest targets for external threats, which is forcing them to effectively protect themselves in the same manner as the biggest companies in the world. We recognize Dell’s leadership when it comes to delivering a comprehensive portfolio of next-generation firewalls, and we see this new product in the SuperMassive 9000 series uniquely filling this gap for both mid-size and enterprise companies, translating to greater revenue opportunities for us, as well. We’re pleased to partner with an industry leader to offer a full-featured next-gen firewall solution at a price-performance ratio that makes it the best solution for mid-sized organizations.”

More than 80 percent of IT decision-makers report these factors as investment priorities for the next 12 months, according to the Future Ready IT survey, recent worldwide research commissioned by Dell and Intel.

“Our customers are inundated with new pressures and challenges that simply didn’t exist a few years ago. The pace of technology development and disruption is undoubtedly increasing, and many IT organizations are trying to find the right balance of rolling out technology in new and exciting ways without adding more complexity to their environments,” said Gabriel Rodrigues, enterprise marketing director, Dell South Asia. “By focusing on three underlying principles in our new PowerEdge server portfolio – accelerating application performance, empowering workloads in any environment, and simplification of systems management – customers can bridge between traditional and new IT models so they are always prepared to incorporate new innovations and stand up and optimize new applications within their data centers.”

Unleash the Power of M.2 SSDs with Plextor

Plextor, the world-leading brand of Solid State Drives (SSD), proudly introduces its latest M.2 Solid State Disk lineup to deliver high performance storage to the new generation of M.2 compatible motherboards. The M.2 is one of the latest interfaces for SSD formerly dubbed as the "Next Generation Form Factor" (NGFF) by Intel. Currently, you can find this interface on the latest motherboards featuring X99 and Z97 chipsets.

The M.2 interface, established initially by Intel, only had the electrical and hardware levels defined. In other words, Intel only specified the socket interface and the electrical specifications for M.2, leaving the design of the signal level open to developers depending on product type and needs. This means that many products, be it wireless network card, USB3.0 expansion card and even SATA6G Adapter, will be able to take advantage of the M.2 interface.

This should explain why Intel has originally referred to M.2 as NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor). It is also worth noting that the current SATA interface has faced its bottleneck; the 6Gb/s (capping at roughly 570MB/s) transfer rate of the SATA III interface has long been the nightmare in terms of performance for SSD products by all manufacturers. Data transfer rate has been the greatest obstacle that has stood in the way of performance improvement for numerous SSD products but it would be unfair to point the finger at the SATA IO as the main culprit of the problem. Relevant technologies simply have advanced too fast for specifications to catch up.

Philips Kulinarya Cook-off

How do you cook without any pots, pans, and stoves? This was the challenge faced by five tandems of homemakers during the Philips Kulinarya Cook-off, which was recently held at SM Mega Mall.

“We wanted to see how our home chefs would respond if we took away the traditional tools of the kitchen,” said RJ Buenaventura, General Manager for Philips Consumer Lifestyle.

The Philips Kulinarya Cook-off, graced by celebrity cook Nancy Reyes-Lumen, challenged family cooks to whip up beverages and dishes using only the Philips kitchen collection.

“This includes the airfryer, rice cooker, electric pressure cooker, juicer, and food processor. And each one of these appliances champion multi-functionality,” added Buenaventura.

“When they told us we couldn’t use pots and pans, I really thought of bowing out of the competition,” narrated Vivian Tiongkiao, one half of the winning tandem, Team Queen-ovations.

Mariane Camba, Vivian’s partner, was thinking along the same line. She recalled, “This was the first time I cooked without a stove. I thought it was going to be difficult, but with Philips’ kitchen collection, the tasks were actually a lot easier.”

Maxwell Comes to Notebooks

NVIDIA recently unleashed an onslaught on the gaming world, an onslaught named Maxwell. We launched the new graphics architecture during GAME24, an unprecedented 24-hour celebration of gaming. And it blew away gamers across the globe.

We held onto one big secret, which we’re revealing today: the introduction of the GeForce GTX 970M and GeForce GTX 980M notebook GPUs.

Maxwell, the company’s 10th-generation GPU architecture, is undeniably the world’s most advanced. It solves some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. And it does so with twice the energy efficiency of the previous generation. It’s a combination that will pay huge dividends in notebooks.

Why?

KingMax SSD is Thinking of You

After Q2 2014, many big-named PC manufacturers have claimed that the PC market has finally crawled out of its slump with sales showing noticeable recovery. However, actual observation tells a different tale: most consumers who still find their PCs “usable within reason” would not jump the gun by replacing their out-dated computer. Instead, they keep using their old systems for the sake of saving money. It is really a poor decision, because the rationale behind tolerating terrible PC performance may be equivalent to inflicting self-punishment!

Here’s a scenario that may be all too familiar: After starting up your PC, you leave your desk to make yourself a nice cup of tea/coffee and if you are lucky, your PC would have completed the startup sequence by the time you plop back into your chair. You need to be honest with yourself and ask yourself this question: “Is it really worth it to waste time on waiting for your painfully slow system to save some petty money?” The truth is, you can still upgrade your PC even if you don’t have the budget to do an entire whole overhaul; you can simply begin with upgrading specific components.

There’s no other hardware replacement that will deliver more noticeable change in PC performance than solid state drive (SSD) replacement. For users who have massive number of files for pictures, music, videos, documents, SSD is a godsend in terms of management efficiency! If you are a gamer, your dated computer may take as long as 2 minutes just to load the files for a major game. By upgrading your system with SSD, the whole process may end in just 30 seconds! The dramatic improvement in performance by switching to SSD would surprise users who have never tried SSD before and they will never go back to the crawl speed of their old computers.
