Developers were invited to participate in The OFW Hack PH! This will be a perfect occasion for teams to develop a revolutionary application that can address and benefit over 10 million Filipinos around the world.
The task is to create a solution for ONE of the two challenges:
1.) Filipinos living overseas have a hard time being away from their families and loved ones. Create an OFW application that delivers a contextual and personal experience for end-users.Personal problems that can be solved by using this application. Some personal problems that Filipinos overseas encounter while away from their families:
- Staying connected to their loved ones in the most affordable way possible
- Getting started with their lives in their current home-base
- Finding a job
- Finding a home
- Finding friends/ a Filipino community to connect with
2.) Make a difference by developing a location enabled solution that helps Filipinos overseas better connect with each other and live more fulfilling lives / Apps not only for OFWs but for Filipinos who live abroad and are away from home
Note: The product should be unique from other telco apps and enable users to subscribe to PLDT Global’s data plans. Data plans have not yet been established, developers may recommend.

Criteria
1.) Relevance. 25%
Judges will assess relevance of the Submission to the topics presented
2.) Genuineness/Creativity. 25%
Creativity will be judged based on the uniquieness and out of the box thinking in providing the solution to problems proposed.
3.) User Experience. 25%
Overall design and ease of use of the solution. Is the layout and flow intuitive and user friendly.
4.) Viability. 25%.
Is the monetization path clear and well thought out. How easy would it be to launch the application and start making revenue.
Eligibility
-The challenge will be open to groups with 2 to 4 members
-Participants must not be currently employed by PLDT, PLDT Global, or any of its partner MPIC groups.
Waiver
Participants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Mechanics and by the decisions of the organizers and/or the judges, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this contest. By joining the contest, the participants agree to waive any right to claim ambiguity or error in these Official Mechanics. Except where prohibited by law, the winners consent to the use of their name and/or likeness by SMART and PLDT Global for advertising and publicity purposes without compensation.
Each participant agrees that SMART and PLDT Global and its parent companies, agents, representatives, affiliates, and employees will have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind resulting from his participation in the contest, or resulting from the acceptance, possession, or use of these prizes, nor in any way are responsible for any warranty, representation, or guaranty, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize, including but not limited to the quality, condition, or fitness.
Each participant agrees that SMART and PLDT Global and its parent company, agents, representatives, subsidiaries, affiliates, and employees will have no liability whatsoever for any injury, loss, or damages of any kind resulting from the use of the entry, unless such entry has been formally offered by SMART and the PLDT Global to the public as a service or a product.
